Thankful Thursday

There are times in life that the to-do list, the busy schedules and the day to day craziness of life seem so stressful and almost impossible to deal with.  I know that i have felt overwhelmed many a time.  Then something happens to someone you know or you hear of a situation that changes someone’s life forever.  Something that is FAR more difficult to deal with then not getting the to do list completed, or having to deal with the frustrations of work or balancing a busy schedule.  Something that makes all the worrying about how you will get things done or how you will deal with a certain situation completely unimportant.

So today take a second to stop and remember what is truly important in your life.  Be thankful for your health, for the health of your family and friends.  Thankful for the time we have on this earth to enjoy life.  In the grand scheme of things the to-do list doesn’t matter.  The drama with your friend or coworker will pass.  It won’t matter in the end if you did and said all the right things at the right moments.  What really matters in life is living each moment to its fullest.  Its stopping to think about all of the beauty and joy around us.  Showing your loved ones how important they are to you.  Its remembering that even in what feels like the hardest of times, there is someone out there that is dealing with something more difficult then we could ever imagine.

Take me down to Paradise City

It was about this time 4 years ago that I was spoiled by some of my most favorite ladies.  To properly celebrate my upcoming wedding…the ladies took me “down to paradise city” for a little beach celebration!!  We spent the weekend rocking it out, getting crazy and just enjoying some girl time!!  All my ladies went above and beyond to make sure i had the most A-mazing bachelorette weekend ever!

To kick it all off my girl Genya {of the AMAZING Vue Photography} put together fantastic t-shirts for us all to wear.  On the back of the t-shirt was a little “love” story she wrote completely out of 80’s song titles {me and the boy have a thing for 80’s music}.  So to honor our EPIC weekend and for me and my ladies to take a little trip down memory lane…i present to you…”Take me down to Paradise City”

“Let me tell you about the crazy bachelorette weekend we had…we took Jillian down to paradise city where the grass was green n’ the girls were pretty and we had big plans to shake her all night long.  We settled into our rocking room at Black Velvet then started to dispose of any blasphemous rumors that the beds are burning tonight.  The idea of drinking was simply irresistible so we started tossing back cocktails until we were interrupted by a shot to the heart…not to fear because we were saved by a strange bell man walking like an egyptian and carrying 99 red balloons.  After the drama we all decided to go over to funky town for a tasty libation but realized the joint was full of girls, girls, girls.  Jillian soon picked a fight with a material girl and told her “hit me with your best shot”.  The material girl screamed like a virgin and ran for her life.  We all agreed it was time to whip it and proclaimed in harmony “let’s dance”!  As the lights went down in the city we blended into the dance floor like a karma chameleon, and busted sweet moves until it hurt so good.  Hours later we looked round n’ round and realized that we were in bad company.  There was a man-eater eyeing us from the corner, brass monkey‘s posing at the bar, and the swingers jack and diane were trying to cut in on our dances.  Jillian said “there must be something in the air tonight” and wanted to leave.  Everyone agreed and decided to beat it.
We were dancing in the streets the whole way back to our condo…everyone cried out in unison “girls just wanna have fun”.  Just then…a funky comadina hollered out his window “I want your sex.”  At first we were appalled but then decided to play along.  Jillian slapped her arse and  said “pour som sugar on me.  Time after time this happened, we heard “gimme all your lovin”, “you rock my cradle of love” and “you’re my little centerfold”…but we all remained faithfully.
When we finally arrived back at Black Velvet , we had all had so much to drink that we were free fallin.  Jillian was the wildest.  We knew she was delusional at this point because she wore her sunglasses at night.  Together we laughed as she ranted and raved about her white wedding.  We tried to warn her that love was a battlefield and that marriage was going to be hard but she wasn’t listening…she just started blabbering about how all she wanted was to be jessie’s girl…but everyone knew she meant Jerome.  After her total exclipse of the heart she passed out.
It was an awesome girls night but by the morning Jillian missed her loveshack in ATL so much she demand…“Oh won’t you please take me home!”

I love my ladies!

Showered with Craftiness: Tinting Tooth Picks

Happy Friday!  After a CA-Razy week i’m really looking forward to a little R&R this weekend.  I’ve been in a crafting state of mind lately…so i thought i would share another fun {and simple} little trick I used for my sister-in-laws baby shower {for other shower crafting amazing-ness look here, here and here}  This is one of those things that is not complicated…but adds a ton of loveliness to your party or decor.  {its all about the details right!!}

Tinting your toothpicks and skewers.

You will need:

  • A box of toothpicks {or wood skewers}
  • Food coloring
  • Water
  • Tupperware or casserole dish {I used a rectangular dish for the long wood skewers}

Simply fill your container with water, add drops of food coloring {obviously the more food coloring, the more intense your color}, throw in toothpicks and let them soak.

When i said this is simple…i REALLY meant it.  Literally.

I soaked my goodies for about 30 minutes to an hour and then dried them out on a paper towel before crafting my heart out with them.  For this little girls baby shower i went pink but you could easily go blue or green or purple?!?!

Rock UR Party

Happy Crafting!

Yummo – Zucchini Fries

I had a “Get on It” moment the other day while looking through my Pinterest boards…specifically my Food board.  There are SO many yummy things pinned but have I tried making them…NO.  So in my frustration I decided to “Get on It” and test out a few of the fabulous pins.  Well I picked a couple good ones…let me tell you!! Zucchini Fries {from the Lean Green Bean} & a homemade version of Chick-fil-a sauce {found at Table for Two}.

Zucchini Fries

  • zucchini
  • egg
  • flour {i used corn masa flour}
  • parmesan cheese
  • cayenne pepper
  • salt & pepper
  • Coconut Oil
  1. Combine flour, with equal parts parmesan, cayenne, salt & peper {no exact measurements necessary – just mix enough to cover the amount of zucchini slices you put together – if you like spice increase the amount of cayenne & black pepper}
  2. Slice zucchini, dredge in egg and then in flour mixture.
  3. Coat baking sheet with coconut oil and lay out coated zucchini slices.
  4. Bake at 350 for about 10 minutes or until desired brown is achieved.  Flipping once.
    * I made these in the toaster oven which cooks a bit quicker then a large oven.
    ** I also turned on the broiler for the final couple minutes to get them crispy!

Chick-fil-A Sauce {healthied up a bit}

  • 1/2 cup greek yogurt {in place of mayo}
  • 2 tbsp yellow mustard
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp vinegar
  1. Mix all ingredients together and Enjoy!
    * this is also really yummy as a sandwich spread or even as a topping to a fish or chicken dish!

Umm…YUMMM!  And so easy to put together.  This one will be happening again soon!!

Happy Snacking!

* There’s still time to enter the fabulous giveaway from Rayna Lane.  Giveaway closes tonight at 8pm and the winner will be announced tomorrow!

It’s a cleaning dilemma…

I’m having a dilemma; a dilemma of the house cleaning kind.  We received a really fantastic Dyson Handy vac as an engagement present years ago {probably about 5 to be exact} and have LOVED it. Its super powerful and easy to use.  We use it ALL the time.  But lately it’s not holding a charge which is No Bueno!

So here’s my dilemma…do i get a new battery {which is about half the cost of the entire handy vac…and probably equal to a new handy vac from a different manufacturer} or do i just say forget it and get a new handy vac that maybe costs less but is still awesome?!?!?

So please please pa pa pa please weigh in…tell me your absolute favorite tools oh the trade…tell me what makes your little cleaning heart flutter…tell me your handy vac hopes and dreams…

Monday Mantra: Future

Morning to ya.  Hope you had a lovely weekend.  We relaxed, did some cleaning & spent some time catching up with family & friends.  The weather here in Atlanta is so gorgeous right now…I can feel fall trying very hard to creep in {so pumped about that!}  In fact…stay tuned for a Fab Fall feature coming soon with some of the favorite things about fall from all the HSE contributors!  But for now…here’s to a great week ahead!!
